GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES


Targovishte region has an area of
​​710.4 km2 2 or that 13.6% of the North Eastern Region and 2.4% of the territory of Bulgaria. It consists of 5 municipalities - Targovishte, Popovo, Omurtag, Opaka and Antonovo.
Targovishte municipality is located on an area of
​​872 sq.km. in the eastern part of the Danube Plain. Municipal administrative center is the town of Targovishte. Its proximity to the exit points of the country -125 km Varna and Ruse - 100 km. makes the municipality natural strategic crossroad in these directions. It is convenient link for Southern Bulgaria in Kotel. In Targovishte passes railway line Sofia-Varna. 13 km. is based on Targovishte Airport, which is currently not used. The area is poor in water resources, but 98.5% of the total population uses water from central water supplies, which is higher than the average for the country.

ECONOMIC SITUATION



Targovishte municipality has a diversified economy, industrial production is concentrated mainly in the town of Targovishte.
Economic indicators determine Targovishte as an important economic center of development in the area, but with weak positions in North-Eastern Region and the country.

Leading industries in industrial production is growing, dairying, manufacture of glass, manufacture of beverages, furniture, construction, tailoring, trading services.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Targovishte is a regional center of one of the 28 administrative districts in Bulgaria.
