Targovishte region has an area of
​​710.4 km2 2 or that 13.6% of the North Eastern Region and 2.4% of the territory of Bulgaria. It consists of 5 municipalities - Targovishte, Popovo, Omurtag, Opaka and Antonovo.
Targovishte municipality is located on an area of
​​872 in the eastern part of the Danube Plain. Municipal administrative center is the town of Targovishte. Its proximity to the exit points of the country -125 km Varna and Ruse - 100 km. makes the municipality natural strategic crossroad in these directions. It is convenient link for Southern Bulgaria in Kotel. In Targovishte passes railway line Sofia-Varna. 13 km. is based on Targovishte Airport, which is currently not used.
